Hexentanzplatz Thale

Zoo and mountain theatre

Our daily opening hours:

Zoo November to January: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. February to April: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May to October: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Last admission is one hour before closing. Short-term changes are possible depending on weather and daylight.

Zoo A bear in the bear forest. A wolf in the thicket. The arctic fox peeks out from behind a rock. Nearby an eagle owl calls. And a lynx creeps through the tall grass. Go on an exciting journey of discovery through the native animal world of the Harz.

In the animal park on the Hexentanzplatz you will find a natural landscape park with over 200-year-old beech trees on the edge of the Bodetal nature reserve. In total, you can discover around 50 animal species that are or were native to the Harz!

For big and small animal friends there is of course a petting enclosure with goats, sheep and rabbits. During the summer season you can play sports on the adventure witch golf course, which is unique in the Harz Mountains. The new playground and the witch figure park are also great attractions.

Harzer Bergtheater Thale The Harzer Bergtheater is one of the oldest and probably the most beautiful natural stage in Germany. Built in 1903 on the model of a Greek amphitheatre, it seats 1,400 visitors. In the Harzer Bergtheater, directly above the legendary Bode Valley, you have an incomparable panoramic view of the extensive stage and the surrounding Harz foreland.

The repertoire of the "Green Stage" at the Hexentanzplatz is just as unique: From May to September, the Harzer Bergtheater delights guests young and old with Germany's most diverse open-air summer festival! Family theatre like "Peter Pan - with Tinkerbell and Hook" or operettas like "The Tsarevitch" can be seen on a fascinating stage world.

But the open-air stage is even more: an event and concert stage. So pop, rock, musical or even folk music fans will get their money's worth. Fabulously beautiful, naturally green, overwhelming, simply unique.
