Barrier tape? Not here. At the Aviation Museum in Wernigerode, the whole family can get as close to the dream of flying as only pilots can. Whether it's the jet plane in which Prince Charles learned to fly in the Royal Air Force, the infamous starfighter or the giant Antonov: 50 aircraft and helicopters with a moving history are waiting to be discovered, explored and marvelled at up close.
Children can get active at several points in the museum, for example at three air experiments that demonstrate the principles of aerodynamics and air flow.
Since October 2018, the Transall C-160, called the "Silver Chamois" because of its special paint job, has been enthroned on the roof of the Wernigerode Aviation Museum, visible from afar. Of course, you can explore this impressive aircraft from the inside. The highlight is the giant slide, which takes you rapidly from there to the terrace of the museum's cafeteria. Almost as beautiful as flying.
Have you ever flown before? Take a seat in the cockpit of the carpet beater and take off: The flight simulator in the original cockpit of the Bell UH-1D helicopter makes it possible. If you prefer to take off with the Messerschmitt Bf 109, you can try your skill in this flight simulator.
